PURPOSE:To improve sliding resistance by forming alternate multi-layered protective films consisting of a hard non-magnetic material and soft non- magnetic material on a ferromagnetic film. CONSTITUTION:The multi-layered protective films laminated alternately with the thin films consisting of the hard non-magnetic material and soft non- magnetic material on the surface of a medium is formed to a magnetic recording medium with which a ferromagnetic metal or thin compd. film is used as a magnetizable film. The average film thickness of one layer of the hard non- magnetic material is preferably 3-20Angstrom and more preferably 3-15Angstrom . The average film thickness of one layer of the soft non-magnetic material is preferably 6-40Angstrom , more preferably 10-40Angstrom , and more particularly preferably 15-30Angstrom . The total thickness of the multi-layered protective film is preferably 100-1500Angstrom .
