PURPOSE:To attempt to prolong the life of a compressor by setting a minimum ON time and a lower limit temperature less than a set temperature when a compressor is turned ON, and turning OFF the compressor when the room temperature reaches the lowest limit temperature before the lapse of minimum ON time. CONSTITUTION:The room temperature is detected by a room temperature detection circuit 1, and the detected value is introduced into a microcomputer 4 through an A/D converter 2. A compressor 6 is ON while the room temperature is in a range of from t0 to t1 which are more than a set temperature TS. When the room temperature reaches the set temperature TS, the compressor 6 is turned OFF, and the room temperature rises up. When a time t2 corresponding to the lapse of six minutes from the maximum OFF time is reached by a timer circuit the compressor 6 is turned ON even when the room temperature does not reach a upper limit temperature Th, and the room temperature decreases and reaches the set tempera ture at the time t3. However, since the minimum ON time is not passed, the compressor 6 is still as it is ON state. When a time t4 at which the minimum ON time is passed is reached, the compressor 6 is turned OFF. Then, the room temperature increases, and the compressor 6 is ON when a time t5 at which the maximum OFF time has passed. At a time t6 at which six minutes of the maximum OFF time have passed, before the lapse of three minutes after turning ON of the compressor 6, when the room temperature reaches a lower limit temperature Tl, the compressor 6 is turned OFF.
