[Also,in Group XXVIII] Parts, of thermoplastic material, are welded together by frictional heat produced at the surfaces to be joined, the heat being produced by an oscillatory motion of at least one of the parts, the latter being held together under pressure. As shown, the ends of pipes 1, 2 of polyvinyl chloride, polyamide, polyurethane, polystyrene or polyethylene are held in abutment by clips 4, 5, the clip 4 being connected by springs 7 to a ring 6 clamped on to the pipe 2 and attached to an arm 9 moved by a crank 10 on the shaft of an electric or pneumatic motor, internal-combustion engine or a manually or mechanically-energized accumulator. |
