The present invention relates to a compaction device for narrow trenches. The device comprises a chain 10 with articulated links, which is guided and driven so as to move the device by driving and rolling pulleys 20, 21 which are joined to a driving member, and a block 50 which moves with a vertical reciprocating motion in order to strike the lower side 13 of the chain 10 rhythmically and to compact the bottom of the trench. <IMAGE>
