PURPOSE:To obtain a porous halide material which hardly causes migration when used, for example, as a matrix of an ion exchange resin and is improved in resistance to dripping and bleeding when used as a flame retardant, by making a porous material from a halogenated crosslinked aromatic monovinyl compound/aromatic polyvinyl compound copolymer of a specified structure. CONSTITUTION:A porous material comprising a halogenated crosslinked copolymer of an aromatic monovinyl compound with aromatic polyvinyl compound or allyl isocyanurate. The material has pores of an average pore diameter of 400-10,000Angstrom , a porosity based thereon of 12-50% and a combined halogen content of 30-75wt%. As said halogenated crosslinked copolymer, a brominated crosslinked styrene/divinylbenzene copolymer is desirable. Said porous material can be suitably used as an adsorbentor a matrix of an ion exchange resin, or as a flame retardant for a flammable polymer in powdery form.
