PURPOSE:To reliably detect the near-end condition of the recording paper by detecting the presence of the recording paper in a stacker before recording is performed on the recording paper fed from the stacker fitted on the main body of a recording device. CONSTITUTION:The recording paper 2 having been recorded by the recording section 3 of a recording device is discharged outside the device main body. At the same time, the recording paper 2 to be next recorded is fed to the recording section 3 from the recording paper holder 5 of the stacker 4. In this case, if no recording paper 2 exists on the recording paper holder 5, a no-recording paper detecting means 6 is turned ON, thus indicating that the recording paper 2 is in the near-end condition. Thereby, the near-end condition of the recording paper 2 can be reliably detected, it is not necessary to increase the measurement accuracy as in the conventional paper thickness measuring means, and the cost can be reduced.
