<p>PURPOSE:To carry out prevention of manganese losses caused by oxidation in molten steel simultaneously with dephosphorization, by adding a dephosphorizing agent mainly composed of alkali silicate and an oxide of manganese to the molten alloy. CONSTITUTION:The dephosphorizing agent mainly composed of alkali silicate and an oxide of manganese, or of alkali silicate, an oxide of manganese, and an oxide of iron, is added to the molten steel independently or in combination with iron oxide-containing slag having oxidizing power: the alkali silicate is sodium metasilicate, potassium metasilicate, etc.; and the oxide of manganese is MnO2, Mn2O3, Mn3O4, etc., and it is preferable that the content of oxide of manganese is about 10-40%. In addition, C content in the molten steel before the treatment is <=about 0.30%. In this way, the loss of manganese by oxidation in dephosphorization is obviated.</p> |
