The valve has a valve element (12) which can be moved axially in a passage (18). The inlet (24) opens into an annular slot (27) which surrounds the passage (18). The valve comprises a hollow column (14) which, at at least one end, has a projecting flange (15) which merges into a tubular section (16) projecting back across the column (14). The valve element (12) is moulded integrally from PTFE. In the shut-off position, the pressure from the inlet (24) acts in the space (28) enclosed by the valve element. The pressure presses the tubular section (16) outwards, thereby increasing the sealing effect as a function of the pressure. <IMAGE>
