PURPOSE:To make unnecessary a non-reading processing or a correction processing and make a character recognition and a transmission thereof at high speed by setting a temporary character code when referring to an input character and a standard character pattern and if they do not coincide with each other, and resetting it a predetermined regulation. CONSTITUTION:To a recognition unable character, an empty JIS code belonging to a division 85- a division 95 is allocated and temporarily set. When at first the recognition unable character appears, a code placed at a final position of these empty JIS codes, namely a division 94 and a point 94=(7E7E)H is set. Thereafter, when the next recognition unable character is inputted, a code placed before by one, namely a division 94 and a point 93=(7E7E)H is set. Then, when the recognition unable character after two is inputted, whether a subordinate byte of the previously set codes of the already set character codes is (21)H or not is judged. If it is not so, the subordinate byte value of the previously set character code is deducted by 1, thereby the obtained character code is set to return to a main routine.
