PURPOSE:To remove easily and quickly a base metal from the mouth of a converter by providing rack members to the converter mouth and moving vertically and horizontally the rack members to cut and drop the base metal when the base metal deposits in the mouth. CONSTITUTION:The base metal 9 deposits gradually on the rack member 12 in a region enclosed by a skirt 22 and the base metal 9 sticks on the inside surface of the mouth 4 of a brick 11 when blowing of a molten steel is executed in the converter. A hydraulic cylinder 19 is therefore operated to raise the rack members 12, upon ending of the blowing in the converter, to lift the base metal 9 on the rack members 12, thereby cutting the base metal 9 to the part on the rack members 12 and the part on the inside surface of the brick 11. A hydraulic cylinder 16 is then operated to retreat all the rack members 12, then the base metal 9 on the rack members 12 is restrained by the skirt 22 and drops onto the mouth 4. The base metal 9 on the mouth 4 is dropped when the molten steel is tapped by tilting the converter body 2. |
