PURPOSE:To prevent the discoloration of a surface colored layer and to improve the weatherability thereof by heating stainless steel hardware for buildings to oxidize and color the surface then coating and baking a transparent alkali silicate paint onto such surface. CONSTITUTION:The surface of the hardware made of various kinds of stainless steel is degreased and cleaned and is then thoroughly dried. The hardware is then put into an electric furnace and is heated to 300-500 deg.C by which the surface is oxidized and colored. The surface is colored to yellow, amber, etc., according to the kind of the stainless steel. The hardware is again rinsed and cleaned. The transparent inorg. alkali silicate paint consisting of alkali metallic silicate such as potassium silicate or alkali tin silicate or alkyl silicate is coated on the surface by brushing, spraying, dipping, etc. Such coating is set at an ordinary temp. - 120 deg.C and is then baked and cured for 20-30min at 150-230 deg.C. The coated hardware is cooled. The surface colored layer having excellent weatherability is formed without discoloration. |
