An arrangement comprising a gamma ray source is used to keep under a certain level the population of bacteria in a cooling lubricant emulsion of machine tools as well to prevent the mycosis formation. The gamma ray source power is determined as a function of the biodynamic dosing rate experimentally determined and set with respect to other parameters of the arrangement. The arrangement comprises essentially a U-shaped conduit which is part of the lubricant circuit. An irradiation chamber is provided in the middle part of the conduit. The sealed irradiation capsule is placed within said chamber, the radiation source and the conduit being protected by a lead armouring.
