PURPOSE:To form ceramic coating layer even on a blade section of complicated shape for the purpose of obtaining a cutting tool of high toughness and high wear and abrasion resistance by applying silicon nitride particles in pastiness and vacuum heating treatment to a metal subject to reaction with silicon. CONSTITUTION:The blade section made of nickel, iron, cobalt, or metal or alloy containing more than 50% of cobalt and reacting readily with silicon are applied by silicon nitride particles of 1mum-5mm in diameter having becomes pastiness by dispersion medium and is processed by vacuum heating treatment at 10<-3>Torr, 1,200 deg.C. Since silicon slightly dissociated by this treatment wets both of cracked is formed improving high toughness of the metal of blade section and the wear and abrasion resistance of ceramic coating layer.
