PURPOSE:To produce an odorless olefin polymer having high stereo-regularity and excellent particle shape, without necessitating the removal of residual catalyst, by using a novel supported solid catalyst prepared by a specific method. CONSTITUTION:An anhydrous magnesium dihalide, Al halide, a titanic acid and an alcohol are mixed and dissolved in an inert hydrocarbon solvent. The solution is made to react with a silicon halide and an organic acid ester to precipitate a solid product. The product is made to react with a Ti halide and/or V halide and the obtained solid product is washed with an inert liquid hydrocarbon to separate a solid product in a state containing >=50wt% inert liquid hydrocarbon. The product is used as a solid catalyst component. The component is combined with an organic Al compound and an organic silicon compound having Si-O-C bond, and the obtained catalyst is used for the polymerization of an alpha-olefin.
