The invention relates to a carboxy-containing co- polymerizate, where said co-polymerizate has an RSV of about 0.05 to about 2. The esterified polymerizate includes at least one ester group A in the form of a carbonic acid ester group with at least about 8 aliphatic carbon atoms in the ester group, with the condition that if the ester group A contains less than 28 carbon atoms, the co-polymerizate ester includes an ester group in the form of a carbonic acid ester group with the formula: <IMAGE> in which R is a hydrocarbon group with about 1 to about 50 carbon atoms, R' is a hydrocarbon group with about 1 to about 50 carbon atoms, y is a number in the range from zero to about 50 and z is a number in the range zero to about 50, with the condition that y and z cannot both be zero. The co-polymerizate can include an ester group (C) in the form of a carbonic acid ester group with not more than 7 aliphatic carbon atoms in the ester group. The invention also relates to crude oil, lubricating oil and fuel compositions, and also additive concentrate, which all contain such an ester.
