PURPOSE:To attain quick and accurate size discrimination by using an image sensor to detect picture information up to a peripheral region including an original picture film and discriminating the size of the original picture film from the density split into many picture elements. CONSTITUTION:A picture information detector 30 consists of a two-dimensional image sensor 32 placed in parallel with a negative film 2, a zoom lens 31 placed in front of the sensor 32, and a board 33 mounting circuits driving the sensor 32 and processing its detection signal. A signal MS from the board 33 is inputted to an operation processing circuit 34 and a setting signal SV from a setting device 35 setting the value of density 0 in response to the size of the film 2 is inputted to the circuit 34. Further, the circuit 34 drives a lens 31 via a drive mechanism 36 to adjust the picture information of the film 2 into a size of region irradiated on the sensor 32.
