METHOD OF PRODUCING FOR THERMOPLASTIC RESIN

Thermoplastic resins are prepd. from mixts. of unsatd. nitrile (I) and alkenyl aromatic monomers (II) in the presence of a rubber latex (III) by two-step polymerization. In the first step, 30-70 wt.% monomer mixt. is polymerized and thus the mixt. contains 0-20 wt.% of (I). In the second step, the remaining monomer mixt. is polymerized and then the mixt. contains 35-90 wt.% of (I). (I)is (meth) acrylonitrile; (II) is a halo or alkoxy substd. hydrocarbon; and (III)is acrylonitrilebutadiene copolymer, styrene-butadiene copolymer etc. The resins have high chemical and impact resistances and are lasily processed. They are useful as interio trims and coatings.
