PURPOSE:To produce an odorless olefin polymer having high stereo-regularity and excellent particle shape, without necessitating the removal of residual catalyst, by using a novel supported solid catalyst prepared by a specific method. CONSTITUTION:An anhydrous magnesium dihalide and a titanic acid ortho-ester of formula Ti(OR<1>)4 (R<1> is 1-20C alkyl, aryl, etc.) are mixed and dissolved in an inert hydrocarbon solvent. The solution is mixed and reacted with a component composed of a 2-24C monocarboxylic acid ester, an Al halide and an Si halide to precipitate a solid product. The product is made to react with a Ti halide and/or V halide and the obtained solid product is used as a solid catalyst component. The component is combined with an organic Al compound and an organic silicon compound having Si-O-C bond and the obtained catalyst is used for the polymerization of an olefin.
