PURPOSE:To improve the operability by providing two sets of scanning photoelectric converting sections and storage circuits, applying conventional transmission for one-side original and applying transmission of both-side original while scanning both sides of the original are scanned at the same time. CONSTITUTION:A control circuit 1 designates whether the original is both-side or one-side original through the key input of the operator. In case of the one- side original, only a scanning photoelectric converting section 2 reads the original similarly as a conventional device by the control of the circuit 1, a coding/ decoding circuit 7 applies direct coding to picture element data and transmits the result to an opposite equipment. In case of a both-side original, the converting section 2 reads the front side of the original by the control of the circuit 1 and a scanning photoelectric converting section 3 reads the rear face of the original. The read picture element is written respectively on storage circuits 4, 5. The switching circuit 6 decides the code order of the picture element data on the front and rear sides of the original written on the circuit 4, 5 by the control of the circuit 1 through the key input designation of the operator, the picture element data is coded sequentially by the circuit 7 according to the decision and sent to the opposite device.
