PURPOSE:To stabilize the running performance by specifying and setting the direction so as to obtain the maximum thermal contraction coefficient after a magnetic tape, a leader tape and a splicing tape are left at a specific temperature for a specific time. CONSTITUTION:In a tape where a leader tape is bonded to the end of a magnetic tape by using the splicing tape, the thermal contraction coefficient in the lengthwise direction of the magnetic tape, the leader tape and the splicing tape is selected respectively as <=0.8% after they are left for 4hr at 110 deg.C, and the difference of the thermal contraction coefficients between the magnetic tape and the splicing tape and between the leader tape and the splicing tape is selected to be <=0.4%. The magnetic tape is manufactured by coating and drying magnetic paint where ferromagnetic powder, binder and additives are dispersed with an organic solvent onto a base. Thus, even when the tape is used repetitively, deformation of the magnetic tape is less, excellent running performance is obtained and stable running performance or reproduction with stable output level are attained.
