PURPOSE:To obtain a novel polymer crosslinked with metallic ion and applicable widely as a lubricant, dispersant, etc., by reacting an ethylene-(meth)acrylic acid-alkyl (meth)acrylate terpolymer having low molecular weight with metal cation. CONSTITUTION:The objective terpolymer can be produced by reacting (A) at least a part of the acid group of a low-molecular weight terpolymer having a viscosity average molecular weight of 500-20,000 and composed of ethylene, (meth)acrylic acid (alkyl is preferably 1-4C alkyl) and an alkyl (meth)acrylate wherein the content of ethylene is 80-99.5(mol)%, the sum of the acid and the ester is 0.5-20% and the ratio of the acid to the ester is 10-90% to 90-10%, with (B) a metallic cation having 1-3 valences. USE:The processability and moldability of various polymers can be improved by compounding the terpolymer to a synthetic resin such as thermoplastic resin and/or a fine inert material.
