PURPOSE:To improve durability, runnability, impact resistance, etc. by forming a thin magnetic metallic film on a substrate and forming successively thin films consisting of a carbon protective film and higher fatty acid lubricating agent on the thin magnetic metallic film. CONSTITUTION:The thin magnetic metallic film is formed on the substrate and the thin films consisting of the carbon protective film and higher fatty acid lubricating agent are successively formed on the thin magnetic metallic film. The carbon protective film has excellent lubricity, corrosion resistance, etc. and is formed by a method such as vacuum deposition or sputtering. On the other hand, the thin film consisting of the higher fatty acid lubricating agent such as higher fatty acid or the metallic salt thereof, higher fatty acid amide, higher fatty acid ester or the deriv. thereof is formed on the carbon protective film. The usable higher fatty acid is exemplified by a lauric acid, myristic acid, etc. and the total film thickness of the thin films consisting of such carbon protective film and the higher fatty acid lubricating agent is set preferably at about <=500Angstrom . The durability, runnability, impact resistance and corrosion resistance are thereby considerably improved and the magnetic disk having the excellent mechanical strength and less noise is obtd.
