A method is disclosed for opposing deformity, displacement, and expulsion of ocular tissues during eye surgery of the types in which a cut is present through the ocular wall. Air pressure higher than ambient atmospheric pressure is generated in a space outside the eye that bears upon a designated surgical field. Concurrently, those surfaces of the eye that lie outside the border of such designated surgical field are maintained at ambient atmospheric pressure. Also concurrently, the eye is stabilized against the applied pressure, the surgeon is provided with access to the designated surgical field. Apparatus for carrying out the method of the present invention is also disclosed. |
