Tert-butyl alkyl ethers are prepd. by reacting isobutylene contg. 10- 70 wt.% butadiene with aliphatic alcohol(s), pref. MeOH or EtOH, in one or more reactors, pref. in series. The reactants and prods. are passed upwards through the reactor(s). Pref. reactants have a linear velocity of 0.5-2 cm/s, and the temp. in the reactor(s) is 50-60≦̸C. The pressure drop remains constant during the reaction. |
