PURPOSE:To evaluate the detergency for the oil stain of a cloth which cannot be evaluated by a light reflection method by impregnating hydrocarbon and fatty acid to the cloth in order to simulate the oil stain of the cloth, cleaning such cloth as a standard stained cloth, extracting the material remaining after the cleaning with an org. solvent and separating and measuring the quantity of the hydrocarbon and fatty acid remaining in the extraction liquid by a column chromatography. CONSTITUTION:The hydrocarbon and fatty acid as the simulating materials for mineral oil, animal and vegetable oils are dissolved in the org. solvent and the soln. is impregnated to the cloth. The cloth after the impregnation is taken out and is dried at a low temp. and is used as the cloth prior to washing. Such cloth is washed by using the detergent and is then take out. The cloth is dipped in the org. solvent under shaking to extract the hydrocarbon and fatty acid remaining in the cloth after the cleaning. The extraction liquid is separated to the hydrocarbon and fatty acid as well as the detergent by the column chromatography. The hydrocarbon and fatty acid are quantitatively determined by an IR spectrophotometer. The separating conditions of the column chromatography are changed according to the kind of the detergent. The evaluation of the detergency is given by the prescribed equation from the quantity of the hydrocarbon and fatty acid in the stained cloth which is not cleaned.
