PURPOSE:To increase the output of a laser, by synthesizing a plurality of laser outputs in an efficient manner. CONSTITUTION:Two semiconductor laser beams are applied to a polarized beam splitter such that they are P and S waves with respect to the splitter. These laser beams are thereby allowed to be synthesized without substantial loss, and the optical output is given by the sum of these two laser outputs. If the phase of these polarized beams are uniformized and the length of the light path is properly adjusted, the synthesized light can be again polarized linearly. Accordingly, such a linearly polarized beam can be synthesized with another laser beam with the use of another polarized beam splitter, and in this case the optical output is given by the sum of three or more semiconductor laser outputs. |
