PURPOSE:To obtain combination of members having high wear resistance, by forming one surface part of sliding members in contact with each other with metal contg. special crystalline alumina-silica fiber and mineral fiber and the other surface part with steel contg. nitride layer having a specified hardness. CONSTITUTION:One surface part of sliding member in contact with each other is formed by incorporating hybrid fibers composed of crystalline alumina-silica fibers contg. 35-80wt% Al2O3, 65-20wt% SiO2, 0-10wt% the other component under >=15wt% mullite crystal, <=5wt% nonfiber particle having >=150mu diameter and mineral fibers contg. SiO2, CaO, Al2O3 as main constituent, <=10wt% MgO, <=5wt% Fe2O3, <=10wt% the other inorganic material under <=20wt% and <=7wt% total quantity of nonfiber particles and particles having >=150mu diameter respectively, into matrix metal such as Al, Mg, Cu by >=1vol%. Crystalline alumina-silica fibers in hybrid fibers are regulated to 5-80vol% and the other surface part is formed with steel contg. nitride layer having >=600 Hv (50kg) surface hardness.
