In a clamping head (2) of a sheet-metal straightener, which is provided with a number of clamping-jaw pairs (3) which are arranged distributed over the maximum clamping-in width and can be opened and closed separately, a centring device (4) consisting of two centring arms (5) which can be displaced synchronously in opposite directions horizontally at right angles to the direction of straightening for centring a metal sheet (1) to be straightened on the central axis of the sheet-metal straightener, and at least one stop (14) for the end side of the metal sheet (1) to be straightened, which stop fixes the penetration depth of the metal sheet (1) to be straightened in the clamping head (2), which depth depends on the metal-sheet thickness, and is adjustable in the straightening direction, in sequence first the clamping jaw-pairs (3x) situated outside the region of the stop or the stops (14) and, after their closure as well as the extension of the stop or of the stops (14), the remaining clamping-jaw pairs (3y) can, after completed centring and positioning of the metal sheet (1) in the clamping head (2) by the centring device (4) with the centring arms (5) and the stop or the stops (14), be closed for a permanent positional fixing of the clamping-jaw pairs (3x, 3y) present over the width of the metal sheet (1) to be clamped in. <IMAGE>
