NEW MATERIAL:The epoxy compound of formula (R and R' are H, alkyl or aryl). EXAMPLE:alpha-Glycidyl-alpha'-isopropylideneglyceryl-glycerol diether. USE:A synthetic intermediate for a compound effective to improve the water- solubility and dispersibility of various fat-soluble compounds used in the fields of pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, foods, agricultural chemicals, etc. Since the compound is liquid at normal temperature, it can be handled easily and can be stored stably under normal condition. Triglycerol derivatives of various fat- soluble compounds can be produced therefrom. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting allyl glycidyl ether of formula II with a 1,3-dioxolane derivative of formula III (e.g. 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolane-4-methanol) in the presence of a catalyst such as CH3ONa, etc., and oxidizing the resultant compound of formula IV mildly in the presence of an oxidizing agent such as m-chloroperbenzoic acid. |
