A fusing-wire trip device for underwater use, having a fusing wire which is provided under water and releases a mechanical operating device when it melts through, is constructed according to the invention in such a manner that, with respect to the fusing power which is required for melting through, a wire resistance is selected such that the voltage to be applied to the wire is less than the dissociation voltage of the water. In this way, insulating problems especially with respect to the terminals which hold the wire can be avoided, and the electrical power required is reduced by avoiding current flowing through the water.
