NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (R and R<1> are H or acyl; R<2> and R<3> are H or alkyl). EXAMPLE:1'-Deoxy-1' dimethylphosphono-beta-D-fructofuranoxyluracil of formula II. USE:An agent to suppress the biosynthesis of nucleic acid, and expected to be useful as a carcinostatic agent and antiviral agent. PREPARATION:The anhydronucleoside of formula III is treated with a mineral acid, or acylated after the treatment with a mineral acid. The starting compound of formula III is a novel substance which can be produced from 2, 3'-anhydro-beta- D-fructofuranosyluracil of formula IV derived from D-fructose.
