An apparatus for playing discs is disclosed, the apparatus being of the type which has a disc-loading compartment (12) which can be moved into and out of the body (11) of the apparatus. A reproducing unit (14) is mounted in the interior of the body (11) by means of compliant elements (16) in such a way that the disc-holding device (14a) of the reproducing unit (14) is arranged facing downwards. By swivelling a movable securing means (15), a disc-pressing element (19), arranged on the movable securing means (15), can be moved upwards, in the direction of the disc-holding device (14a) of the reproducing unit (14), and also downwards, in the direction away from the disc-holding device (14a) of the reproducing unit (14). A disc (D) which has been placed into the loading compartment (12) when the latter is moved out from the body (11) can be moved together with the loading compartment (12) into the body (11) and is designed to be firmly clamped in its central region between the disc-holding device (14a) and the disc-pressing element (19). <IMAGE>
