In order to stabilise hard bindings of books, the book block is first liquid-stabilised, then a head band is applied to the spine of the book, then the leaves of the book block are cross-bound, subsequently to this, paper is glued behind the spine of the book block, and finally the spine of the book block and the spine of the binding are tubed, both of them, and the adjoining part of the binding cover, being bonded in the region of the hinge points with, in each case, a web-shaped stabilising layer of textile material, plastic material or special paper with included stabiliser paper, in a single operation. The subject of the invention further relates to a book wrapper produced by this process.
