This invention relates to novel insecticidally active esters of formula: where R is H or alkyl and X is the residue of a carboxylic acid of formula X-COOH which forms an insecticidally active ester with 3-phenoxybenzyl alcohol, and to insecticidal compositions and methods of combating insect pests therewith. In addition the invention relates to 4-alkynyl-2,3,5,6-tetrafluorobenzyl alcohols useful as intermediates.
