PURPOSE:To tone so as to obviate a color deviation in a painted product by changing a hue standard from a hue standard plate to a standard plate for toning according to the kind of a painting gun to be used for toning and the quality of a material to be coated. CONSTITUTION:Varnish, pigment, solvent and additives are put into a vessel 8 and the mixture composed thereof is trially painted without toning on a specimen 9 made of the same steel as the steel of a body by an electrostatic painting gun 6 of a painting stage 3 while the hue is compared with the hue standard plate 10 in a stage 1 for producing a reference paint in a toning method for paint. Colorimetry 18 is repeated until the reference paint 11 for toning is obtd. The paint 11 is sprayed to a steel specimen 15 by an air spray gun 14 and the standard plate 12 for toning in a stage for producing the paint for production. The paint is prepd. in a vessel 14 in the same manner as in the stage 1 and is sprayed to the specimen 15 by the gun 4. The hue is compared with the plate 12 and is toned to meet the same, by which the paint 16 for production for a stage 3 obtd. The matching of the hue of the coated film is thus made easy.
