PURPOSE:To shut off the inside of a suspension type continuous heat treatment furnace for heat-treating successively materials to be treated and the external air except in the inlet and outlet for the materials to be treated and to improve the thermal efficiency of said furnace by providing transfer rollers on both side surfaces of the furnace body and attaching suspension hooks for the materials to be treated on conveying bases thereon. CONSTITUTION:A suspension frame 11 is lowered from a ceiling door 2 of the heat treatment furnace 1 and the suspension hooks 6 attached with the materials 7 to be treated are held and lowered. After the hooks 6 are imposed on the conveying bases 5, 5' in the furnace, suspension rods 12 are removed from the hooks 6 and are placed on the transfer rollers 4, 4' on both sides; thereafter the frame 11 is pulled up and the door 2 is closed. While the hooks 6 attached with the materials 7 are transferred on the rollers 4, 4', the materials are subjected to heat treatment in the furnace and are transferred onto reset rollers 9, 9', then a ceiling door 14 in an ejection port is opened and the materials are taken out of the furnace by the frame 11. The furnace inside is shut off from the external air except in the inlet and ejection port for the materials 7. Since the inlet and ejection port are held closed as well except when needed, the intrusion of the external air into the furnace and consequent decrease of the furnace temp. are obviated and the operation with high thermal efficiency is made possible.
