The invention relates to the technical field of the production of silicon for solar cells and especially relates to a mould and a process for the casting of polycrystalline silicon bars of large dimensions. The technical problem to be solved is the provision of a casting mould which makes possible not only the formation in columnar form of crystals of sufficient dimensions, but also makes the phase of preheating of the mould superfluous and prevents stresses at the silicon/mould boundary surface during the cooling phase. The problem is solved with a mould (1) which is characterised by an outer supporting casing (2), an inner container (3) made of essentially soft material, a lining (4) of heat-insulating material of low heat capacity between the sidewalls of the container (3) and the supporting casing (2), and a floor layer (5) of silica sand or the like between the floor of the container and the floor of the supporting casing. <IMAGE> |
