PURPOSE:To detect surely and automatically the coating interruption of a viscous material by breaking an electric circuit including a nozzle, the viscous material extruded from the nozzle and work when the coating of the viscous material is interrupted. CONSTITUTION:One electrode of a detector 6 contg. a DC power source is connected to the nozzle 2 and the other electrode is connected to a positioning jig 5 and eventually to the work 3 and further a conductive material such as zinc powder is incorporated into the viscous material such as rust preventive sealant to provide electrical conductivity thereto in the stage of coating continuously the viscous material on the work. The circuit is broken and the inflow of the current to the negative electrode of the detector 6 is interrupted when the coating of the material 4 is interrupted. The interruption is therefore alarmed by a buzzer 7. The easy and sure detection of the coating interruption is thus made possible, by which the man-hour for operation is reduced and the automation of the coating operation is made possible.
