PURPOSE:To reduce the deposition of irradiated metal on the surface of a stainless steel material by coating the surface of the steel material with an iron-base metallic layer having a low Cr content so as to inhibit the formation of Cr enriched spinel on the surface. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a stainless steel material 1 to be treated is entirely coated with an iron-base metallic layer 2 contg. <=10% Cr. A passivated film of Cr enriched spinel 9b) formed as the surface layer of the steel material 1 is not formed on the surface of the metallic layer 2, so the deposition of irradiated metal is reduced.
