PURPOSE:To provide an adhesion improver capable of providing an excellent improvement in adhesion between an adhesive, a paint, etc. and a substrate, which comprises a product obtained by reacting an amino compound having a primary and/or secondary amino group in its molecule with a specific dicarbonyl compound. CONSTITUTION:An amino compound having a primary and/or secondary amino group in its molecule (e.g.: 2-ethylhexyloxypropylamine or gamma-amino propyltriethoxysilane) is reacted with a dicarbonyl compound of the formula (wherein R<1> and R<2> are each independently a 1-16C alkyl, a 6-12C aryl or a 1-4C alkoxy; R<3> is a 1C or higher hydrocarbon; and n is 0 or 1) (e.g.: dimethyl maleate or acetylacetone). The reaction product is incorporated as an adhesion improver in an adhesive, a paint, etc. in an amount of about 0.05-5% to improve the adhesion of the adhesive, paint, etc.
