A process of and apparatus for conditioning the hair, especially the tips thereof. After the hair has been dampened, for example by shampooing, and optionally dried, either partially or completely, it is subjected to a conditioning step in which it is maintained in an atmosphere having a relative humidity of from about 40 to 80% and at a temperature of from about 35 DEG to 75 DEG C. A special hood may be provided for use in the conditioning operation.
