PURPOSE:To obtain a magnified picture of an arbitrary magnification factor by rotating an optical system forming an image of the original, adjusting the feed rate of the original and properly processing the picture signal obtained at the optical system. CONSTITUTION:The original 1 is transported by an original transporting motor 2, a belt 20 and feed rolls 3, 3', 4 and 4' in the direction of A. An illuminating lamp 5, a lens 6 and an image sensor 7 are secured on an optical base 8 to form an optical system as a whole, the base 8 is rotated by a motor 9 and a belt 90 in the direction of B and the magnified picture signals from the sensor are stored in a memory 11. When the transport direction A of the original the scanning direction of the sensor 7 are deviated by theta from the right angle, distortion is caused in the reproduced magnified image. Therefore, the transport speed in the direction of A of the original 1 is set to a prescribed function of theta and the output bit image of the memory 11 is converted by a picture signal converting circuit 12 in a direction to correct the deviation of theta in the horizontal direction of the image by an image signal converting circuit to produce the normal bit image which is stored in a memory 13.
