PURPOSE:To improve the corrosion resistance of a separator for a molten- carbonate-type fuel cell especially for a salt mixture of Li2CO3 and K2CO3 by preparing the separator from an austenitic stainless steel which is composed of iron and given proportions by weight of carbon, manganese and aluminum. CONSTITUTION:Carbon is an important austenite-producing element and it is possible to save other austenite-producing element by using an increased amount of carbon. However, since use of an excessive amount of carbon results in reduced hot workability of material, the carbon content of the separator of this invention is restricted to 1.0wt% or below. Since use of an excessive amount of manganese results in deteriorated manufacture efficiency of material although manganese is cheaper than other austenite-producing element, the manganese content of the separator is restricted to 30-40wt%. Since use of an excessive amount of aluminum results in deteriorated casting of material although like a rare earth element aluminum is necessary in order to produce good corrosion resistance, the aluminum content of the separator is restricted to 3-12wt%. The separator is made of an austenitic stainless steel the remaining part of which consists of iron. Accordingly, it is possible to improve the corrosion resistance of the separator and to produce it at a low cost. |
