PURPOSE:To obtain a small sized reader with high quality image by aligning the optical system taking a curvature restricting an original face and the thickness of an original into account so as to apply image read with almost uniform resolution over an image read region. CONSTITUTION:Alignment is applied by shifting an object point OP on an optical axis L, that is, a conjugating point of an image point IP to the remotest point F from the nearest point N to a converging light transmission array 6 by DELTAT on the read range. Preferably, the converging light transmission array 6 is arranged so that the object point OP is positioned at the intermediate point between the point N and a cross point F' between an optical axis L and a perpendicular line from the point F to the optical axis L. The entire reader has only to be moved and adjusted to a platen roller 50 with an image reader section 66 where the relation of position between the converging light transmission array 6 and an image sensor 8 is preset so as to keep a suitable distance being a half of the conjugate length Tc and arranged to a light shield hood 70.
