MOLTEN STEEL TREATING AGENT

PURPOSE:To obtain a molten steel treating agent capable of efficiently taking part in a desulfurization reaction by blending CaO with CaF2 and MgO so as to satisfy a specified weight relation. CONSTITUTION:A molten steel treating agent is composed of CaO, CaF2 and MgO with inevitable impurities. In this composition, the amount of MgO is 10-60wt% and an equation CaF2/(CaO+CaF2)X100=20-80% is satisfied. The treating agent produces a significant desulfurizing effect on a molten steel bath on which slag is not formed. The molten steel is obtd. by high frequency melting in an MgO crucible. The treating agent reduces the erosion loss of refractories and has other favorable characteristics.
