PURPOSE:To decrease the stress load on optical fibers in the stage of exerting side pressure thereto by making independent side pressure members and a tension member and inserting or fixing the tension member as a fiberous tensile body into the sheath of a flat cable. CONSTITUTION:The two optical fibers 1a, 1b are disposed at approximately the center in the lateral direction of the sheath 3 for an flat optical fiber in the positions symmetrical with the central axis. Two pieces of the side pressure members 5a, 5b which consist of FRP or copper and are made into the bar shape having the diameter larger than the diameter of the fibers 1a, 1b are disposed on both sides thereof. The members 5a, 5b are deformed earlier than the optical fibers 1a, 1b to decrease the pressure exerted to the fibers 1a, 1b when the pressure in a vertical direction is exerted to the flat optical fiber. The tension member 6 consisting of a arom. polyamide fiber or the like is disposed above the fibers 1a, 1b to provide a function to protect the fibers against tensile force. The position for disposing the member 6 is not as strict as for the members 5a, 5b. The tension member is thus disposed in any position where the tensile stress of the fibers 1a, 1b can be absorbed. |
