NEW MATERIAL:A compound of the formula (R<1> is halogen; R<2> is lower aliphatic, aromatic group; R<3> is lower aliphatic, aromatic, alkyl). EXAMPLE:Ethyl fluoronitro(phenylthio)acetate. USE:It is used in synthesis of optical isomers originated from polyfunctional groups, asymmetric synthesis and synthesis of organic fluorine compound as a fluorine-containing syntthons. PREPARATION:The hydrogen atom bonding to the alpha-carbon atom in the corresponding ester is halogenated with a halogneating reagent such as F2, N- bromosuccinimide, then mercaptized with a mercaptizing agent such as thiophenol, phenylsulfenyl chloride to give the compound of the formula. The reaction is carried out in a solvent such as carbon tetrachloride or ethyl acetate at 0-80 deg.C for 2-48hrs.
