PURPOSE:To obtain the titled substance useful as a vermin-controlling agent, in high yield, by reacting a neophyl halide derivative with a 3-phenoxybenzyl alcohol derivative in a polyalkylene glycol solvent in the presence of a base. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound of formula III is produced by reacting (A) the compound of formula I (R1 and R2 are H, halogen, CN, NO2, alkyl, alkenyl, acyloxy, etc.; m and n are 0-4; m+n is 0-4; X is halogen) with (B) the compound of formula II (R3 and R4 are H, halogen, alkyl or alkoxy) in the presence of a base (e.g. NaOH), in a solvent comprising a polyalkylene glycol or a mono- or dialkyl ether of polyalkylene glycol and having an average molecular weight of 300-2,500. The amount of the solvent is 2-20pts. per 1pt. of the compound of formula II. EFFECT:The objective compound can be produced in high yield by using an inexpensive solvent.
