PURPOSE:To perform not only filtering work within a short time but also backwashing and intermediate washing by a filter itself, by performing the peculiar arrangement combination of distribution piping and supply and discharge values, the successive operation thereof and the supply of seawater under pressure. CONSTITUTION:When pressurized seawater is introduced and usually filtered, a supply valve 8 of water to be filtered and a filtrate take-out valve 16 are opened while a backwashing supply valve 9, a backwashing drain valve 11 and an intermediate washing water withdrawal valve 18 are closed. When washing is required, the backwashing supply valve 9 and the backwashing drain valve 11 are opened while the supply valve 8 of water to be filtered, the filtrate take-out valve 16 and the intermediate washing water withdrawal valve 18 are closed. Whereupon, the pressurized liquid to be filtered sent in from a water supply pipe 4 is guided to a filter main body 1 from a second water injection pip 7 through a branched water outlet pipe 15a and a water outlet pipe 15 and reversely flowed through a filter material 2 to extract dust from the filter material 2 under the aid of the force of water pressure and reversely flowed to the branched pipes 6a, 6b of a first water injection pipe 6 along with dust and dirty water is guided from the backwashing drain valve 11 to a drain pipe 12 to be discharged from a drain port 13.
