PURPOSE:To obtain an apatite wool processable to a form suitable for medicine and other applications and having excellent biocompatibility, by spinning a solution of apatite using a specific binder an calcining the obtained wool. CONSTITUTION:Fine particles of apatitle of formula M10(ZO4)6X2 (M is Ca, Ba, Mg, Sr, Pb, Cd, Fe, etc.; ZO4 is PO4, AsO4, VO4, CO3, etc.; X is F, Cl, OH, etc.) are dispersed in an aqueous solution of a binder, and the dispersion is degassed and extruded through the spinning nozzle 5, and at the same time, air is ejected through the air nozzle 7 to form a fiber stream. The stream is heated with the infrared heater 9 and blasted toward the collection belt 11 to effect the evaporation of water and obtain the wooly hydroxyapatite 12 bonded with the binder. The wool is calcined to eliminate the bonder.
